Local Interviews and Stories!
The Stories of Mountainair Are Just Beginning
Every town has stories, but Mountainair seems to have more than its fair share.
They live in the studios of local artists, behind the counters of family businesses, inside busy classrooms, and around kitchen tables where memories have been passed down for generations. They’re written across the landscape, preserved in old photographs, and carried in the walls of the centuries-old missions nearby.
At Mountainair Times, we want to share those stories.
We’ll sit down with the artists who find inspiration in New Mexico’s colors, characters, and wide-open spaces. We’ll talk with business owners about their ideas, challenges, and hopes for the town. We’ll meet the teachers helping local students discover what they can become, and introduce you to the neighbors, volunteers, ranchers, craftspeople, organizers, and everyday characters who make this community unlike anywhere else.
We’ll also look back at Mountainair’s extraordinary past. This region holds layers of history stretching across centuries: Indigenous communities, ancient pueblos, Spanish missions, homesteaders, railroad days, ranching traditions, and the generations of families who built their lives here. We’ll explore the people, places, mysteries, photographs, and memories that connect today’s Mountainair with everything that came before it.
Just as importantly, we’ll tell stories about what is happening right now. People throughout Mountainair are creating art, opening businesses, teaching children, restoring buildings, caring for neighbors, preserving local history, and finding new ways to help the community thrive. Their work deserves to be seen and celebrated.
Some stories will be sweeping. Others might begin with a single photograph, a handwritten letter, a familiar building, or a conversation over coffee. Together, they will create a richer picture of the place we call home.
And we’d love your help finding them.
If there’s someone we should interview, a piece of history we should investigate, a local project we should highlight, or a story you’ve always wanted to see told, please reach out. The best community newspaper isn’t simply written about its readers: it is shaped by them.
Mountainair has an incredible past, a lively present, and a future worth following. We can’t wait to tell its stories.
